“When I came home from the hospital that night, the nurse was already there setting things up for me. It was amazing. They never seemed in a rush and took the time to answer our many questions.”
Few things are scarier than having trouble breathing. So, when James started experiencing shortness of breath, he made the decision to visit the Greenville Memorial Hospital Emergency Room.
“It was hard to breathe, I had the chills, and I was just feeling terrible overall,” said James.
Upon arrival, James was admitted and diagnosed with Respiratory Failure due to COVID-19. On his third night in the hospital, he was told that he could go home the following night with Prisma Health Home Recovery Care, which is provided through a partnership with Contessa. James and his wife were excited to get back to their home while still receiving hospital-level care.
“Knowing that I was going to have all of the medication I needed and was still going to be checked up on was a really good feeling,” James said.
James was thrilled with the registered nurses who came to visit. “When I came home from the hospital that night, the nurse was already there setting things up for me. It was amazing. They never seemed in a rush and took the time to answer our many questions.”
James was given a remote patient monitoring kit, a tablet for daily doctor appointments and saw a registered nurse twice a day. “The tablet was very easy to use. It was great to get to talk with a doctor on the screen. The 24/7 phone line made me feel like I was never alone.”
When his breathing difficulties flared up again weeks later, James went back to the hospital. This time, he felt reassured knowing that Home Recovery Care was an option.
James re-enrolled in the program and credits it for his quick recovery. “I 100% recommend this program to other patients!”
