Position Spotlight: Recovery Partner

I was born in Dallas, Texas and raised in Nashville, Tennessee. I currently reside in Huntsville, Alabama after moving here in 2020. I have worked in healthcare for 15 years starting as an uncertified Medical Assistant in 2007, eventually becoming a CNA in 2010. I’m continuing to work toward my goal of becoming an RN with the intent to work in case management/social work. I joined Contessa as an admission coordinator in May 2020, and then moved into the Recovery Care Partner role in February 2021.

What does a Recovery Partner do at Contessa?

As Recovery Care Partner, I find myself getting to know the patient and helping them identify their needs. Whether it be realizing they need a gait belt for safer transfers at home or coordinating with their Primary Care Physician to ensure continuation of therapy, each patient has unique needs that should be met. I also assist in coordinating appointments and schedules.

Why did you choose a career as a Recovery Partner?

I enjoy working with people, being able to be utilized as a resource, and being a listener to our patient and their needs.

How does the work you do at Contessa differ from other jobs?

I feel like my past employment experiences have allowed me to offer more for patients and helping identify needs. I think the core values of Contessa are something not many can have. I am proud to be a part of this team!

What is the best part of your job?

Watching our work come to fruition, having the ability to work with the RCCs, providers, and patients to provide the best care.

What’s the most challenging part of your job?

Realizing that not all patients understand the scope of what their Primary Care Physicians can do for them. Having patients not recognize that there are resources to help them with things they have spent years struggling to accomplish.

What inspires you to come to work every day?

I love getting to know our patients by speaking with each of them on the days of their call cadence.
