Position Spotlight: Senior Human Resources Specialist
Abby has been working for Contessa for three years, this being her first role after graduating from Ole Miss in 2019 where she majored in business and marketing. Despite never having imagined she would join the field of human resources, she has enjoyed every moment of it. Abby was born in Michigan but raised in Nashville and enjoys being outside, doing Crossfit, traveling and trying new food.
What does a Senior Human Resources Specialist do at Contessa? I get to do a little bit of everything. Mostly, I’m responsible for supporting our employees and leaders across Contessa’s corporate office as well as our JV partners. I facilitate all stages of the employee lifecycle including recruitment, onboarding, employee engagement, culture and more!
Why did you choose a career in Human Resources? I knew that I wanted to work with people and have an impact on their lives. HR is the perfect career path for that. I get to work with every employee at Contessa day in and day out and provide candidates with an opportunity to find a role that they’ll love.
How does the work you do at Contessa differ from other HR jobs? I work with all departments throughout the company. In other companies, they may have certain HR partners assigned to specific departments. Contessa is so integrated, that I can easily connect with our leaders and employees across the company.
What is the best part of your job? Working with every single face that comes to Contessa. I love working with our employees across the company. Finding quality people to help Contessa continue to grow while embodying our mission is an amazing feeling.
What’s the most challenging part of your job? The most challenging thing about my role is how complex Contessa is. We work with several existing and new entities, meaning we have multiple small companies under one umbrella. Each market differs from the others so sometimes it can be difficult to navigate the proper processes. But once we do, we can implement them and use them as a guide for future partnerships.
What inspires you to come to work every day? I love working with a company that is changing the way healthcare is delivered. I know that the work we do matters and even though I do not deliver care for patients directly, I get to find the people who do.
