Employee Spotlight: Hana Bazzi, Palliative Care Nurse Practitioner
Meet Hana, a Palliative Care Nurse Practitioner (NP) with Contessa partner Henry Ford Health. Hana was recently nominated for an MVP Moment by her manager, who shared, “She models excellence in all that she does and continuously goes above and beyond for our program and patients.” She’s described as a problem solver, resourceful and compassionate – all while part of managing a large patient load while navigating complex processes.
We asked Hana to share some details about herself and her role here at Contessa, and we hope you enjoy learning more just as much as we did!
All about me
Hana started her schooling at Wayne State University after receiving a Presidential Scholarship. She became an RN in 2012 and worked briefly in the ER for a year before returning to school at Chamberlain College to become a hospice NP in 2017. Her love for hospice and palliative care continued to grow, and she became certified as an Advanced Hospice and Palliative Care NP in 2023.
At Contessa, Hana’s role as a Palliative Care NP is to treat symptoms of chronic or life-limiting illness as part of an interdisciplinary team. She also documents patients’ wishes for care. “My goal is to improve the quality of life of patients who have a serious or life-threatening disease,” says Hana. “I specialize in pain and symptom management, giving attention to the highest quality of life possible and compassionate end-of-life care. I provide support to our patients and their families, helping them identify and understand what the patient’s wishes are and what the goals for their care are.”
Work-life balance: what’s life like outside of work?
When she’s not at work, Hana loves building things and doing house projects. “I am very creative and like to consider myself very handy,” she shares. She also loves walking her two Cavapoos and doing activities with her three kids.
We asked Hana to name three things she can’t live without: “My morning cup of coffee, peace of mind with good health and family.”
What I love about Contessa
“Contessa has offered me so many opportunities,” Hana explains. “It shares my visions for patient care and growth.” That’s been enhanced by her ability to deliver care virtually, which attracted her to the role, she adds. “To be at a home office and be able to support and provide care to so many more patients is key.”
She says that she is most proud of how successful the program is and the growth she’s witnessed over the last year. “It has been immense. Our care is extraordinary, and numbers speak for themselves, as these are direct lives we have impacted in various ways.”
Contessa culture from a Palliative Care NP perspective
Hana has found Contessa to be a diverse, friendly and motivating place to work. “I feel like my colleagues and I work in unison and have a cohesiveness that no other company I have worked for possesses,” Hana shares. “Our workdays are smooth, and we have an understanding of roles and expectations.”
Thank you, Hana, for being such a great example of our values in action, and for sharing your story with us!
