“If it weren’t for Hospital Care at Home, I would have been stuck in a rehab. I highly recommend the program.”

When her culture results came in, 83-year-old Ila was told by her urologist to immediately go to the ER. Once at Ascension Saint Thomas West, she asked to participate in Hospital Care at Home because of her positive experience last year.

Hospital Care at Home is provided through a partnership with Contessa and brings all the essential elements of hospital care to the comfort of a patient’s home. When Ila was in the ER last year with a UTI, she qualified and enrolled to receive her care at home.

“I am just so thankful it’s available,” Ila shared.

This time was no different. Ila’s eligibility allowed her to enroll in Hospital Care at Home again. Therefore, she was sent home with remote patient monitoring devices and a tablet to use for doctor appointments.

In addition to telehealth visits with her doctor, acute care registered nurses visited Ila’s home multiple times a day to check vitals and answer questions, and recovery care coordinators managed her care plan That level of communication is what impressed Ila the most, she never felt alone. “They were fantastic. I really had an elite group of nurses.”

Now that she’s better, Ila is looking forward to celebrating her birthday. She also hopes to see her daughter and family soon.
