Employee Spotlight: Bec Pearce, Acute Care Registered Nurse

Meet Bec Pearce, an Acute Care Registered Nurse (ACRN) with Contessa partner Mount Sinai in New York City. Bec is an integral part of a team of caregivers who are making a real difference in the lives of our patients and their families.
Known for his compassion and patient-first approach, Bec provides empathetic care, tirelessly advocates for his patients, and shares valuable nursing insights to support their health.
He is also a well-respected preceptor with a strong commitment to mentorship and believes it plays a vital role in delivering positive patient outcomes, enhancing employee satisfaction, and fostering a collaborative, supportive team environment.
We asked Bec to share some details about himself and his role here at Contessa, and we hope you enjoy learning more just as much as we did!
All about me
As a Recovery Care at Home ACRN, Bec makes a meaningful impact on the lives of patients and their families providing acute-level medical care where they want to be – in their homes.
“I am originally from Pennsylvania and went to nursing school at Drexel University in Philadelphia,” Bec shares. “I started my nursing career in the surgical ICU at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. I spent five years there learning and honing my nursing skills, before moving to New York City for a change of pace and scenery.”
Work-life balance: what’s life like outside of work?
When he’s not at work, Bec loves soaking up the great outdoors with friends at the park, hitting the trails for hikes, or cruising around on his bike. “I also love cooking and baking,” he shares enthusiastically. “Trying new recipes is my favorite!”
Bec told us the three things he simply can’t live without are: “My cat Louie — he’s the best thing to come home to after a long day at work. My noise-cancelling headphones to drown out the NYC sounds on my commutes. And my reusable water bottle to stay hydrated throughout my shift or on long days exploring new parts of the city.”
What first attracted you to your position as an ACRN at Contessa?
“The first thing that caught my attention about being an ACRN at Contessa was the chance to have unique, one-on-one experiences with patients,” Bec explains. He added that interactions in the ICU can often be rushed. “This role allows me to build meaningful connections with patients and provide personalized care, making a significant impact on their health and well-being.”
Why do you choose to mentor others, and what do you hope to achieve through mentoring?
Bec is one of our preceptors in the New York area and plays a crucial role in building the confidence and competence of new nurses.
“I enjoy mentoring others because it reinforces what I do and know while highlighting the importance of asking questions and continuing to learn,” he explains. “I strive to exemplify the high standards Contessa sets for its nurses and the workplace culture we want to uphold as a team.”
Bec adds, “Even though we work independently in the field, we always support one another, and I want new hires to feel that sense of connection.”
Thank you, Bec, for being such a great example of our values in action, and for sharing your story with us!
