Employee Spotlight: Haley Allen, Team Lead Care Coordinator
Meet Haley, a Team Lead Care Coordinator with our Palliative Care at Home program based out of Tennessee. We asked Haley to share some details about herself and her role here at Contessa, and we hope you enjoy learning more just as much as we did!
All about me
Haley shares that she has been a registered nurse (RN) for the last seven years. She says, “One fun fact is that I took the NCLEX on my birthday!” Passing the nursing boards on a birthday is a commemorative experience for sure!
Haley’s nursing experience ranges from PCU/stepdown to home health and hospice. She obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing online through the University of South Florida in 2021 and is currently pursuing her Master of Science in Nursing, with the goal of becoming a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner.
In her role with Contessa as a Team Lead Care Coordinator, Haley assists with the day-to-day operations of the Palliative Care at Home value-based program. She supports the training of new hires and works closely with her manager to create and implement workflows. She also provides support on day-to-day needs of Virtual Care Unit (VCU) team members.
Haley explained that she also carries a caseload of the Virtual Only patient population in Tennessee. For these patients, “I monitor patient care, provide education on the program, and offer in-person support when needed,” Haley says.
Work-life balance: what’s life like outside of work?
Outside of work, Haley enjoys running, traveling, being outdoors and reading. “My ten-year-old son plays baseball year-round, so he keeps us busy!” Haley says. “My husband and I also enjoy trying new restaurants and taking our Australian Shepherds to the dog beach.”
We asked Haley to share some things she couldn’t live without: “I could not live without my family and friends who serve as the best support system, or my Kindle, as I love to escape in a good book!”
What I love about Contessa
“Prior to working at Contessa, I was a travel nurse in a COVID unit,” Haley shares. “Feeling drained and in need of a positive change, I decided to apply for this position. I was not familiar with Contessa at the time; however, I was a Hospice Case Manager for two years at Amedisys prior to pursing travel nursing. I was intrigued by a position in palliative care as I already had developed a compassion for hospice and palliative care through prior experience. I was eager to pursue this position as I felt it would be the breath of fresh air that I needed, and it certainly was!”
Haley is now approaching her second anniversary with the company. She says, “I have spent quite some time reflecting on how far the palliative program has come. I am proud to see the growth we have made since “patient zero” in the Tennessee market as well as the growth and implementation of Mount Sinai and Henry Ford markets. I am proud to serve on a team of interdisciplinary healthcare professionals who all have the same goal in mind, serving our patient population in the best way possible.”
Contessa culture from a remote nursing perspective
“Working remotely, I can understand that it can be easy to feel disconnected from a team, however this has not been my experience with this company,” Haley says. “Contessa offers a welcoming, family-like experience, which I am grateful to be a part of.”
When asked what the best thing was about her colleagues, Haley shared, “I love the different perspectives offered by my cohorts. Our team is small, tight-knit and supportive of one another. When a team member needs support, whether it be professionally or personally, someone else is always there to lend a helping hand or offer a word of encouragement.”
Thank you, Haley for being such a great example of our values in action, and for sharing your story with us!
