Position Spotlight: Acute Care Registered Nurse
Jarrod is from the small town of Boaz, Alabama. He moved to Nashville less than a year ago and is loving the city. He’s been a registered nurse for almost three years now and cannot picture himself doing anything else.
What does an Acute Care Registered Nurse do at Contessa? An ACRN does patient visits once the patient is in their home after leaving the hospital. I take vital signs, assess the patient, give meds/infusions, get in contact with doctors if needed, and most importantly, make sure the patient is safe in the home. It is like the patient is still in the hospital, they are just in the comfort of their own home.
Why did you choose a career in nursing? I chose nursing because I love people and I love to help people. Also, the sky is the limit in nursing. You can do so many different things.
How does the work you do at Contessa differ from other nursing positions? The work I do at Contessa differs from other nursing positions because I am in the patient’s home instead of a hospital or doctor’s office.
What is the best part of your job? The best part of my job is how grateful and appreciative our patients are after being able to get the help and treatment they need while getting to stay home.
What’s the most challenging part of your job? The most challenging part of my job is seeing how sick some of these patients are. With everything going on, we see some sick patients who just want to feel better.
What inspires you to come to work every day? Our patients inspire me to come to work every day, knowing I really am making a difference and helping someone while making them feel more comfortable means the world to me.
